Introducing OHU Graduate and L’Oréal Honouree, Bev woods, BSc, RDH

Bev has been a dental hygienist for 34 years and graduated with her BSc from OHU in 2020. For Bev, it was her lifelong dream to complete her degree having always previously put it on hold whilst she was being a Mom and helping others.

Helping others has been the theme of Bev’s career. She has served her profession as President and Director of the Ontario Dental Hygienists Association and an Executive Council Member for the College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario.

Whilst accompanying her military husband overseas, Bev volunteered with ‘Friends of the Fallen’ and escorted family members out to the flight line to welcome home their fallen loved one as part of the ‘dignified transfer’.

Bev hasn’t slowed down! She has turned her passion for those experiencing barriers accessing preventive oral healthcare into a charity and is now the President of Gift from the Heart. She opened a dental hygiene office in Trenton, Ontario as a location for her community to receive free care.

It is really not surprising that she was honoured in 2019 with the L’Oréal Women of Worth Award in Canada. We are really proud to have Bev in our Alumni. She also wants people to know that they should not be afraid of taking that first step back into higher education.
