This is where your Master’s journey begins.
The O’Hehir University Postgraduate Certificate in Leadership and Coaching is designed for dental hygienists and dental therapists who want to develop their ability to lead, influence, and support change within their professional environments.
Building on the foundations of the Bachelor’s programme, this certificate moves beyond communication alone and focuses on how leadership is experienced in practice, within teams, organisations, and wider systems.
A Practical Approach to Leadership
Leadership is not treated as a fixed model.
Instead, students are supported to:
- Develop their own leadership philosophy
- Understand how behaviour is shaped within real-world environments
- Explore how to guide and support others effectively
This creates a more applied and individualised understanding of leadership and coaching.
Learning Experience
The programme runs over six months in small cohorts of five students, meeting weekly for one hour.
Learning is based on:
- Reflection on current roles and experiences
- Discussion and peer review
- Application within your own professional context
There is no single pathway through the programme. Each student develops their work in a way that aligns with their own goals, whether in clinical practice, education, business, or other fields.
Who This Is For
This certificate is suitable for dental hygienists and dental therapists who:
- Are leading or supporting teams
- Are moving into education or mentoring roles
- Are developing their own business or professional pathway
- Want to better understand how to influence behaviour and outcomes
It is not necessary to be in clinical practice.
For Dental Hygienists and Dental Therapists
Eligibility
Open to licensed or registered dental hygienists and dental therapists who hold:
- A Bachelor’s Degree

Class Times
Classes are Sunday mornings in North America (EST), afternoons in Europe (CET).
The next class will begin at 10 am EST/3 pm UK in Spring 2026
Six Months
Program Length
All classes start when full (5 students) meeting for one hour in a video conference weekly and run for six months.
Manageable
Tuition
Tuition for the Post Graduate Certificate in Leadership and Coaching Program is $2,998.00 (US).
There is a $50 non-refundable application fee.
A 6-month payment plan is available with no finance charge.
Payments begin when the class starts.

Meet Sabrina Cooper BS, RDH, PG Cert, who was in the beta class for this course. Sabrina is a dental hygienist and certified culinary nutritionist. Amongst many things, she runs her own business called Nourish Well.

A Broader Perspective
While leadership and coaching are central, the programme also introduces a wider view of practice, including:
- How systems and structures influence decision-making
- The realities of time, workflow, and professional environments
- The role of leadership beyond the clinical setting
Meet Roma Czech BSc, RDH, PG Cert, who was in the beta class for this course. Roma has her own independent dental hygiene practice in Ontario, Canada. Amongst many things, she mentors dental hygienists who are hoping to go into independent practice.
